I have a 1851 large cent that looks like one I saw in my cherry pickers book.
I think the book calls the coin in the book newcomb-42 , page 13.
Im looking for opinions on wether or not the one I have is the same or close thanks for any help

Right obv, wrong rev. This is N-1, they share the same obv but your coin shows the lines up to the left behind and between ON and NE that are on the rev of N-1. N-1 is an R-3 coin 200 to 600 estimated to exist, the N-42 is still unique.

This is one of the reasons I hate collecting those things. Seams like there ares just to many different types.

Thanks Condor, I agree just carl there are loads of different varieties but I enjoy the search.
Ive searched 20,000 + wheaties for something good and never found much so giving the large cents a shot .
Thanks for the help , if I find another one I think is close do I post it here or start a new one ?

Start a new post if you are asking about a different coin. A word of warning, Late dates (1840 - 1857) are usually pretty tough to attribute unless you have VF or better coins. Early dates and middle dates are usually much easier especially on lower grade coins.
