If I send a single coin (so it could fit in an envelope)within Canada using Canada Post, what method is least expensive that uses tracking?

I am not concerned with fast arrival time as much as wanting to make sure it arrives and that the buyer gets it.

Registered mail is the least expensive method for tracking, which also includes signature at no extra cost. The price is lettermail cost + $9.50. Slightly cheaper than Xpresspost.

The only case I've run into where shipping it as a parcel was cheaper was sending it within my city with just tracking, no signature.

Registered mail is for only "paper"... (stamp dealers and paper money dealers use it)

If you are going to do this regularly, then become a Canada Post VentureOne member:

Then use Expedited Parcel option, it is cheaper than Xpresspost, almost as fast, and being a VentureOne member, you get up to $100 insurance coverage for free. If you want to save even more money, then use your own postage to pay for it - and buy stamps below face value from a coin or stamp dealer.

What's the value of the coin ? If it's pricey, registered mail - camouflage it between two pieces of cardboard. I have sent thousands of inexpensive ebay coins by first-class mail over the last 19 years and only 1 wasn't received.

Thanks for the feedback. I have sold a few Canadian coins on ebay a I have upgraded my collection. Probably the most expensive was $150 and I have always used regular post with no problem with stuff arriving at destinations.
But as I move into the $300 range which won't be often, I think I'd like a little more security.

If you are shipping short distances, sometimes it is cheaper to send a parcel than Expresspost. Always worth a check.
