Ben Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 4208 Posts	Posted 03/30/2019 8:06 pm Certainly Claudius - not only does it look like him, but we can also read the bottom half of [C]LAVD[IVS] at the top of the coin. Wildwinds lists a variety with Epsilon in right field (RIC V:2 Rome 110) - it looks like an inexperienced die sinker has engraved an epsilon on the right field of the die, resulting in a retrograde epsilon in the left field on the actual coins. I have the same coin in my collection, but my Epsilon is in the right field. I purchased it a couple/few years ago because the portrait is so good, even if both the obverse and reverse legends are off flan. Report this Post to the Staff

Ben Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 4208 Posts	Posted 03/31/2019 06:29 am The normal type (epsilon in right field) would probably only be worth a euro, if that, in this condition. Looking at Helvetica's RIC table, this coin is RIC V:1 Rome 109, a type in and of itself, issued with various different bust types, all common, so I don't expect you'll see much of an improvement in its value - probably only 2EUR unless someone takes a fancy to it. I'd keep it, it is an interesting one. Report this Post to the Staff
