Jose de San Martin 1778-1850, Argentine General & El Libertador of Argentina, Chile & Peru. Instrumental in the battles for independence from the Spanish Empire, he features on many banknotes. On this Argentina 5 peso he appears alongside other famous South American Libertadors, Bolivar, O'Higgins & Artigas.

Reverend John Chilembwe 1871-1915, was a Baptist Minister, he was educated in the USA and returned to his Nyasaland (Malawi) homeland to lead an unsuccessful uprising against Colonial Rule & the treatment of agricultural workers on European owned plantations. After trying to escape into Mozambique he was captured and killed.
He is recognised on Malawian banknotes & has a National Holiday on January 15th in his honour.

Major General Aung San 1915-1947, considered 'Father of the Nation' of modern day Myanmar. He was a revolutionary, instrumental in Burma gaining independence from Great Britain, a founding member of the Communist Party of Burma he aligned with Japan during WWII, later switching allegiance to the British, perhaps realising he had exchanged one old master for an infinitely more tyrannical new one.
In 1945 he led the Burmese National Army in a revolt, helping the Allies defeat the Japanese.
In January 1947 Aung San & British PM Clement Attlee signed an agreement guaranteeing Burmese independence within a year, in July 1947 a gang of armed paramilitaries assassinated Aung San along with 6 of his cabinet colleagues.
His daughter Aung San Suu Kyi is a leading politician in Myanmar

Cool note and backstory, Scots. And another note with staple holes. Banks certainly didn't have the collector in mind back then.

Hi there CelticKnot, Aye I take your point, not for the collector of pristine banknotes maybe, but if one can find a rare, excellent condition note, the staple holes may not matter a jot, it's a very subjective subject.
It was a common practice with notes from Asia especially, India, Pakistan, Burma, Bangladesh etc.
From my own point of view I think these notes are great, kind of sets them apart from others and now that stapling books of notes together has virtually stopped they'll eventually get rarer, might take a century or so though & I'll be long gone. So I will enjoy them while I can

No, who is "Ulyanov" & what country does the note come from? (I suspect Russia but would like "Arikie" to enlighten us)

Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov (22 April 1870 - 21 January 1924), better known by his alias Lenin...

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated around the world on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First celebrated in 1970, it now includes events coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network in more than 193 countries.
