Major General Aung San 1915-1947, considered 'Father of the Nation' of modern day Myanmar. He was a revolutionary, instrumental in Burma gaining independence from Great Britain, a founding member of the Communist Party of Burma he aligned with Japan during WWII, later switching allegiance to the British, perhaps realising he had exchanged one old master for an infinitely more tyrannical new one.
In 1945 he led the Burmese National Army in a revolt, helping the Allies defeat the Japanese.
In January 1947 Aung San & British PM Clement Attlee signed an agreement guaranteeing Burmese independence within a year, in July 1947 a gang of armed paramilitaries assassinated Aung San along with 6 of his cabinet colleagues.
His daughter Aung San Suu Kyi is a leading politician in Myanmar

Hi there CelticKnot, Aye I take your point, not for the collector of pristine banknotes maybe, but if one can find a rare, excellent condition note, the staple holes may not matter a jot, it's a very subjective subject.
It was a common practice with notes from Asia especially, India, Pakistan, Burma, Bangladesh etc.
From my own point of view I think these notes are great, kind of sets them apart from others and now that stapling books of notes together has virtually stopped they'll eventually get rarer, might take a century or so though & I'll be long gone. So I will enjoy them while I can
