Good morning everyone. I had this coin laying on top of my dresser with some other coins I was returned with change so I thought I would throw it on here to see what you all thought about this being damaged from just being well-used or if there is more to it. Here are some images and I thank you for having a look....

Damaged, but still worth keeping, because it's a War Nickel.

War nickel, yes, but not silver? no mint mark above Monticello, or anywhere else, so it's a 1942 P without silver?

I really don't know to much about these nickels other than reading up on them a bit. I put this one on here hoping for a little insight on this particular coin. It may not show it in my pictures, but there are numbers/letters in the background of the ones on it, as well as doubling around the head and bust. But all's I got was damaged. I think there's more going on with it then damaged though....

There is nothing going on except wear and damage.
It is impossible to have letters/numbers appear on the
fields during the striking of a coin unless they are part
of the design.

I have a few coins on foreign poachers that have "underlying" numbers/letters and images (1941 LWC on a leftover planchet from 1940/Panama 1 1/4 centering, bronze 3.1 grams). But, I'm not on here to doubt anyone's opinions. I enjoy getting on here and posting my coins and questions that I have for them. Speaking of which, doesn't this look exactly like the 2 in the date? I looked at a lot of nickels before I asked this question and posted this picture but to me it looks like the number two on top of the end of the ponytail? Again, it "Looks" like it. Maybe it is possible...

A smaller to looks to be underlying that too with a for next to it which could be a date that was struck on there and ground often and Polished but not completely because there are marks that appear like grinding or polishing to me but then again it's just my opinion...

And it almost looks like a smaller 2 underneath the other 2 at the end of the pony tail with a 4 next to it which could possibly be part of a date struck and then ground and polished off but not completely?
