This 1927 LWC is not a rare or super-valuable coin by any means, but I love the woodgrain toning! Thoughts on a grade? I still have quite a bit of difficulty with grading LWC's so I depend on CCF to help me improve my grading skills! I see wear in Lincoln's hair and in the wheat ears on the reverse so it can't be a MS coin. Au-58.

AU58, can you get a better obverse pic? Hard to judge hair wear.

I'm leaning towards MS64/5 wear on woodies tend to make affected area darker..lite strike?...wonder what Moxking would give it on eye appeal?

Striking quality will affect details in the hair. Almost impossible to tell if this is circulated without having it in hand.

MS is relative to the original coin starting at MS70 based on surface preservation, strike, luster and eye appeal deductions are made. a coin still can be MS even it was in circulation so long as there is no actual wear from handling. AU is a circulated coin that shows very light wear on the highest devices woodies are very challenging to grade by photo as the striations makes it very difficult to determine wear from softer strike. In this case the coin appears to be a weaker strike as the hair, beard and stalks are not fully struck up. I'm not saying that there is no wear, I'm saying that this coin could possible be MS even if it saw circulation if in fact it was a weakly struck

I see no signs of circulation based on the given pictures.....which could be deceiving. Looking for signs, I eventually defaulted to the rims and they are free of evidence. To completely determine between AU and MS will require looking at the luster under the patina. Mint state woodies still cartwheel with the correct light. Disruptions in the fields of the cartwheel spokes or lack of spokes tells if it's an AU coin. No matter what, it's a beautiful woody! MS-63 TPGWG-65 BadThad

paralyse, no opinion on the grade, but when you get the coin, compare it to 1927 DDO-001, 1-O-I-CW on Variety Vista ( 1927 1¢ WDDO-001 on Wexler). While the seller's photos are blurry, I think I see extra thickness on the "9" in the date, the obverse "Unicorn" marker on the "2" in the date, and the reverse marker inside the "O" in "OF." I could very well be wrong about this, but it is definitely worth checking.

I think it is a MS65BN. I'm not sure what the market grade would be; probably a 63. MDS I don't see any marks in the prime focal areas, or for that matter on the bust. Remember that grading is MOSTLY based on actual wear and contact marks till about MS65. After that aesthetics comes into play.
