I wish I was in Chicago... I would find someone to order from the Fed, or go there myself. I don't know if it's true, but I have heard from multiple sources that the Ikes are in the Fed there. Not only that, but they are said to be unopened mint bags. Therefore they would be UNC.
One source I read said that the coins must be ordered by the mint bag of 500, IIRC, so there they sit until someone is willing to buy them in bulk. That is probably why bankers don't even want to think about them. What are they going to do with bags of Ikes...

I'm going "back home" to see some relatives!

Coinrus: I tried a couple US Banks on my side of the river, but both said no. Also a PNC. She said she could try, but was almost certain they would send SAC's or Susan B's. Lets HOUND the 'you know what' out of these banks till we get results. What part of CVG do you live in?

Sorry, everyone my computer has been down the last two days. To get back to the topic of IKES. I live in Buffalo, NY, but spoke with a contact in Manhattan. I'm not sure if the IKE inventory is strictly in New York or scattered across the country at various terminals. To get one thing straight: banks ordering from armored car services and banks ordering from the FED are two totally different situations. Banks do not like to special order from the FED because of the costs involved. As I stated previously, Banks order excess cash from armored car services. If they have something in stock they will gladly supply it to a bank, but to put in a special order to the FED is not commonly done. Bags of IKES come in $1000 increments, so most banks will not make a special request for that amount of cash. However, if you were say a Premier level customer and offered to pay any costs associated with obtaining these coins you may be able to get them. Also, my main interest is not collecting IKES, it would be searching the bags for possible silver dollars. As I was told, "these bags have been laying around for years in a vault collecting dust. Now, think about this, how many here have found walkers, franklins and even Barber halves in boxes? I have found a good amount of silver in the last three years alone. Since these bags have not been touched for some time, I'm sure there has to be at least a few silvers in there. Also, most of us here just search boxes/bags for the thrill of the hunt. It is exciting! My main point here is that armored car services do carry these coins in stock and would readily supply them to any bank that ordered them. My contact told me they would love to ship some out, the ONLY problem is finding a bank that is willing to order them for you. Many bank employees also do not know they can order IKES for customers or even who to call to place an order. If there are any tellers here, call your money center and have them call the banks contracted armored car service to see if they have IKES in stock. Make sure to say it is for a Premier customer, they will always go above and beyond for these types of customers The money center tellers deal woth armored car service contacts on a daily basis and it would not be inconvenient for them to call. BY the end of the year, I will try, since I am a bank employee and report any findings/pics on the site. Happy searching!

How much are the fees associated with ordering the Ikes? Does anyone know?

My bank charges NO FEES !!..... So, yours may not either.....just ask them. Sometimes if you have an account there....they'll do it for you. Just don't "abuse" the priviledge by "dumping" the cast offs there too.

Yeah, as far as the reject coins go, take them to the bank that wouldnt cooperate with you, and dont feel any remorse for burying them in coins either. They are being punished for poor customer service.

However, if you do not belong to this "other" bank.....they don't "have" to accept them ! Usually only "account holders" have that option......so it would behoove you to belong to a couple differnt ones. I'm lucky, there are 5 branches to my bank.....3 of which are in my city.

I don't think there would be any silver in these. My understanding is the Fed has them because they are unopened bags straight from the mint, then parked in whatever spot they are in right now. They should be UNC and free of piggybacking Peace or Morgan dollars. What will happen with these is the mint* will get wind of them, and then see it as an opportunity to "slab" each Ike, a'la GSA Morgans, then sell them for exorbitant amounts. Now, if someone finds a stash at an armored car service, realize that they are independent of the government, and will therefore have well circulated coins. *Or some other tax happy, money hungry arm of the government.

I should have been clear I was commenting on a previous post talking about the bags as though they were circulated coin. Insinuating that silver may actually be found. Unless the silver fell in the bags at the mint, it's not there.

Silver Eagle,
I'm anxious to hear if you can actually get a bag of Ikes. I'd be willing to drive down from Toronto to pick one up!
