Everybody, thanks for your insights regarding coin returns, very enlightening! I appreciate them all!
Being a novice, I'm siding with keeping my 5 sets intact, not opening the package when it arrives this Tuesday. I know the NGC in "general" wants you should send it in within 30 days of a coin's release. But it does not seem to be imperative and absolutely required. Or am I wrong?
If the sets have never been taken out of its original mailing package, could I wait until after that 30-day period, so long as I do not open the original mailing box, and still get them graded as "Early Releases", etc.?

I believe for "early releases / first strike" labels it has to be postmarked (or received?) by a particular date. Not sure if the sealed box matters or not for this product.

Quote: I know the NGC in "general" wants you should send it in within 30 days of a coin's release. But it does not seem to be imperative and absolutely required. Or am I wrong? It matters for NGC, Quote: To qualify for First Releases or Early Releases, all coins must generally be received by NGC or an NGC-approved depository on or before the Cutoff Date listed to be eligible for the First Releases or Early Releases designation. but I haven't seen what the cutoff date for this set is For PCGS you have two options for First Strike, Quote: The package mailed to PCGS has a postmark date prior to the PCGS cutoff date for that particular coin/issue. Only the coins need to be mailed to PCGS and received within the first 30 days of issue. or Quote: Submit the coins in the original unopened shipping box from the U.S. Mint with a postmark date prior to the specified PCGS cutoff date.

Thanks, CelticKnot and BadDog for the pointers. I will call or "chat" with NGC for the cutoff date, haven't seen it either.

BadDog has it down pat... NGC...has to be RECEIVED by the cutoff date. This issue needs unopened boxes only if the country of origin is requested for the label. Important for the RCM sets but PROBABLY a wash for the USA sets PCGS...sets have to be SHIPPED by the cutoff date OR, for unopened boxes (of ANY issue) shipped by the Mint before the cutoff date. Boxes can be submitted at any time as long as the above is adhered to. Neither company has released their cutoff dates but it is usually 30 days after the first group of coins are shipped so the first week of August would fit...exact day TBA ...also my order from yesterday is still "processing" and hasn't been relegated to the backorder bin Anyone who is interested in a set check the Mint at 0730a when the status is updated. I bet more become available withing the next couple of days...decreasing as time goes on. Edit: APMEX has only 9 of the PCGS RCM sets left. They started a couple of days ago with around 100

At quick glance, ebay BIN auctions are $178 - $199 for the US sets. Will be interesting to see what happens over the next week or so.

Yup...with most in that $178 range APMEX sold 28 RCM PCGS 70 sets on ebay for $309.49 (six left)...the same sets that are presently $279.95 on their website

I'm puzzled at the value differentials between US and Canadian sets that possess the same grades since the coins should be exactly the same.
Is it just the packaging that makes them less or more valuable?

Read the thread on exactly this subject with this set (and other similar sets) http://goccf.com/t/350716It matters squat whether YOU think about labels when it comes to price/value. Collectors WILL pay a significant premium for the same exact coin from a low mintage SET vs. the SAME coin released separately in much higher numbers. Makes no sense to the label deniers but, again, that matters squat. It is a fact...,not a belief. I should add I totally agree, I do, with the same-coin-thing-it-doesn't-matter BUT I still purchase, submit and sell my coins based on known facts

Please excuse my ignorance on this matter: If I send my unopened box of five Pride of nations set to NGC what is the cost to send and what is the benefit.Same question to PCGS what is the cost to send and what is the benefit. Just the designation of first strike?
Thank you
