Hello all, cleaning out some space and found this oddity, I forgot I had. I saved it because of the odd areas the did some die polishing to clean up a Clash. Any thoughts on this one? Thank you for the help,
Edward M.

Looks like he has been in a small tussel. Why doesn't he keep the helmet on?

But still a nice coin for the age. First year for the VDB with dots on the shoulder.

Hello John1, I posted this because it looks clashed. Some of the die polishing on obverse and reverse are on locations where no Clash marks would be. I wanted to know if this is a MAD Clash or is it possible, be some unknown Mule Clash? Because of these die polishing locations. Thank you for the help,
Edward M.

I think the easiest way to explain it is, look past the coins normal strike.

In other words, pretend the coin is blank and look for things that normally wouldn't be there.

I must admit, on this one I'm having trouble seeing much in the way of a clash.

Look, I get the whole coin thing about varieties, VAM's, errors, anomalies, etc... I know it's popular and many find it very interesting. But man, when you (not you personally) have to get down into the weeds with explanations, terminologies, definitions, pointers, arrows or a scanning electron microscope to find or see the "so-called" problem area of the coin in question, I say forget it!

I also know it's a learning curve here for many. Finding that elusive 55 DDO is very alluring.

For me, unless that error jumps off the coin and slaps me in the face I'm moving on. Just my opinion.

Hello all, I really like Clashes that's why this one Slapped me in the face. E Pluribus and left wheat stalk should not have any Clash marks according to the Overlays, but this is obviously Polished in that region for a reason. In the area behind Lincoln head above the Liberty, in hand those look like Clashed Letters. So my question is "Why would Mint workers polish out areas of the Die, where no Clash marks should or would of existed?". Thank you for the help,
Edward M.

Agree, although once upon a time I spent many an hour going through change. I did find a few nice errors, 39 Jeff DDR comes to mind. But then I started to pay for coins and got away from errors.

I think a lot of it is the thrill of the hunt. Something for nothing. I can relate to that, as I've done a lot of metal detecting.

Just another facet out of many that this hobby offers.

hahaha slap in the face....

When I get surprised by a DD, I back off the coin and I am usually thinking "what the heck?".

it is all about the hunt.

There is no clash. Just a contact mark on the cheek. A clash would affect these areas on a Wheat cent:

Rotated die clashes as well as other die damage is known to exist. Die polishing is not always done in a specific location. Thanks, Doug.
