Bought this set today at a LCD for $9. Going through a lot of mint sets, I used VV's Mint Set Varieties page to know what to look for: http://www.varietyvista.com/26%20Mi...es/index.htm

1973-D DDO-002 with strong extra thickness throughout the obverse can be found in mint sets and sure enough the one 1973 set I looked at had it.

I listed it as CRDO-002, more pics there: http://crdievarieties.com/doku.php?...3d50ccrdo002

My first still-in-mint-packaging variety, a bit difficult to photograph.

Good cherrypick? Thoughts, opinions, how'd I do?

Looks good to me. Nice pick! $9 seems pretty fair. :)

You did very well! Nine dollars is dirt cheap for what you cherrypicked! Nicely done!

I wondered how this DDO would look with a normal coin. But while it is nor real strong, you can see it when the images are side by side. When I first saw the coin, I was sure it was a DDO, but after looking at the design for that year, I questioned it. But seeing it side by side set aside my question. Not real strong, but a keeper.

Nice find and congrats. Those mint set finds are fun to come across.

Tanman2001.I don't think you have the CONECA listed 73D DDO-002, It looks like the 73D DDO-006 in my collection. If you compare the bottom of the Y in LIBERTY with your photo and the photo of the 73D DDO-002 in James Wiles E-Book (VV) you can see they are not the same. All of the markers you listed on crdievarieties.com match the -006 in my collection. I checked with a friend, taclough, also a member of this site about the markers on his 73D DDO-006, and they also match your half. His 73D DDO-006 has been confirmed by CONECA, James Wiles.
That is a nice find.

Thanks atrox001, I should have noticed the difference in the Y. I'll change the cross-reference to DDO-006.

Without the Kennedy files on VV being complete, it's really tough for me to make any accurate cross-references. I have a 1965 DDR as well that I just can't figure out. Since the DDO-002 was the only one listed on the "Mint Set Varieties" page I mistakenly assumed that was the only possibly.
