Hello all, wonderimg your thoughts on this one. Usually, collectors know how they aquired something, one of the few I donot remember if it was CRH or Purchased. Nothing on VarietyVista about a S/D, only a D/S.Thank you for the help,
Edward M.

By all appearances it looks like a normal coin and mint mark.

It looks like there is a mark in the lower half of the letter S. Could it be added material, such as may be added during normal wear and tear?

That lower area is most of the time, just mintmark puncheon damage. Well see that so often after they punch many already hardened dies with a punch:

Coop, the part I'm asking about I marked in Red. It has to much Uniformity to be Damaged. If it is, one of the best Damage thay made it look like the bott half of the D MM. Wish I knew how to overlay to see if the D MM fits that area.

But would be too small of be a mintmark punch. Probably more of a die chip or a damaged punch issue. If it is a damaged punch issue then we would see it on several different dies. But if it is chip, just a few thousand coins would be affected. If just one coin is affected, then it might just be damage. So we need to see if there are more examples that have this. If you find it does happen often, then note mintmark location to see if it is an exact match or a different match your location.
