sel_69l Bedrock of the Community Australia 21788 Posts	Posted 07/11/2019 02:01 am I am thinking it may be a Roman colonial coin. The legend appears to be Latin, not Greek and ends in 'X11' (=12). The coins appears to be very heavily wire brushed cleaned, probably in an attempt to remove enough corrosion to be able to identify it. At 17-18 mm and weight 8.58 grams, it is a quite thick, dumpy coin, (=fabric). This characteristic may help with it's further identification. Report this Post to the Staff

(I see an upside down V early in the inscription so you have a Greek L and very little else in Latin looks that way.) Now could be a winged lion walking right, or just a lion walking right and those marks above his back are deceiving suggesting a wing. The coin is not flat, but slightly curved and very thick - up to 5 mm 'P' below the animal and possible a smaller filled 'A' or 'Λ' between the hind legs.
