I seem to have made a few errors with my counting per decade, as the numbers by decade do not add up to the total. I am going to recount the coins and will get back to you with an update.

Alright, so I apologize for the confusion in advance. Included in this entry is the $20 in pennies I just went through after returning to the west coast, in which I found 1 1920's penny and 2 1950's pennies. I also found 2 canadians, both post-1964. These are included in the total count I just did. Anyways, here are the totals verified after the count I just did. So far: 152,750 pennies searched through To go: 847,250 Finds United States coinageTotal Wheat Cents: 668 total 50's pennies: 358 40's pennies: 248 30's pennies: 35 20's pennies: 16 10's pennies: 9 09 pennies: 2 Indian Head cents: 3 (1896, 1897, 1901) Proof Cents: 2 (1979-S, 1990-S) Philadelphia mint proof token: 1 (no date on it even though it's uncirculated) Foreign Coins Canadian 1 cent: 493 total Post 1965: 433 Young Head (1953-1964): 49 King George VI type II (1948-1952): 3 Kinge George VI type I (1937-1947): 8 (oldest: 1939) 2 Euro: 2 Bermuda 1 cent: 1 ½ New Penny: 1 1 New Penny: 1 Un centismo de Balboa: 4 Commonwealth of the Bahamas-one cent: 3 10 francs: 1 10 centavos: 1 Unknown Game token: 1 Dimes Roosevelt: 25

My thanksgiving break doesn't end until tomorrow, so I thought I'd take advantage of it by doing some hunting! After a $110 penny marathon, I have the results below. A little disappointed by the quantity of wheats, but that is to be expected when hunting on the west coast! So far: 163,750 pennies searched through To go: 836,250 Finds United States coinageTotal Wheat Cents: 699 total (31) 50's pennies: 374 (16) 40's pennies: 260 (12) 30's pennies: 36 (1) 20's pennies: 18 (2) 10's pennies: 9 09 pennies: 2 Indian Head cents: 3 (1896, 1897, 1901) Proof Cents: 2 (1979-S, 1990-S) Philadelphia mint proof token: 1 (no date on it even though it's uncirculated) Foreign Coins Canadian 1 cent: 505 total (12) Post 1965: 444 (11) Young Head (1953-1964): 49 King George VI type II (1948-1952): 3 Kinge George VI type I (1937-1947): 9 (1) (oldest: 1939) 2 Euro: 2 Bermuda 1 cent: 1 ½ New Penny: 1 1 New Penny: 1 Un Centismo de Balboa: 6 (2) Commonwealth of the Bahamas-one cent: 3 10 francs: 1 10 centavos: 1 Unknown Game token: 1 Dimes Roosevelt: 26 (1)

Are you getting and returning your coins to the same bank? That could be causing problems. Even if it is not the same bank, your returned coins can end up being brought to your bank, and you end up buying them. I suggest you turn in your coins as far away from the bank you get them from as possible.

I am returning coins to the same bank, but you have to understand the banking system. Millions of coins are shipped to brinks for packaging into boxes and rolls. The $50 or $100 I return makes up .0001% of what brinks packages and sends back. It makes no difference.

Not really. I used to do an insane amount of quarter CRH. I went through all the quarters the bank had. I came back three weeks later, and they informed me that they still only had the coins I went through. If you have found nothing interesting in a full box, or half a box, you have probably went through it already.

So what you might have missed is that I am returning coins in deposit bags. This means that the bags I return are shipped to a brinks facility to be repackaged and distributed. Thus I never get the same coins again. Also, all the coins I search, with a few exceptions, are not customer wrapped. This means that no one, I repeat no one, has gone through them.

Curious. If the deposit bags you return to the bank ship to a 'nearby' Brinks facility (or other similar service provider such as Garda), and that facility repackages and distributes coins to your local community--banks, large retailers, etc., there's a decent chance at least some of the commercially-wrapped rolls you're picking up have been through that facility and contain previously searched coins--searched by you that is.
Key would be where that facility is--Santa Barbara, Thousand Oaks, greater Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo...? If the facility serves a large sprawling metro area, then your chance of getting fresh(er) coin improves.
Wonder if there are any other cent roll hunters in your general area?

My coins are coming from the brinks center in los angeles. That means that I will almost never see the same coins again.

I was able to pick up $25 in pennies and wasn't incredibly happy with the results, but okay with the 6 wheats I found. Christmas break is on the horizon, so expect $200 to $300 a week during that time.
