I recently started hunting and I have found millions of sellers online for getting coin rolls. I am trying to figure out how to tell which ones are being truthful or if there are better places to buy coin rolls. Any info is appreciated

I have mainly been focusing on searching for error pennies but I search through nickels, dimes and quarters too. I originally started searching through all at once and that was overwhelming. I started about 6 months ago and most of my coins where either in my coin jar or friends and family donated to my new addiction. Now I am trying to find better quality or maybe a wider range not really sure.

If by buying rolls online you mean the "unsearched Wheat cent" rolls or similar, there's a 99.9999% chance that those have been searched through. They're a waste of money. When people talk about roll searching, they usually mean going to a bank and withdrawing money in the form of coins and searching those. you can get boxes of cents, nickels, dimes, and quarters fairly easily. |

Following up on what Adam said. Unsearched wheat rolls don't exist, but most bags are unsearched in terms of varieties and such. Generally the larger the seller the higher the chances they are unsearched.

if you are just searching for errors and varieties, why not just go to the bank, and buy your rolls and get them for face value?

I've bought Wheat cent rolls on ebay--not that many, but I did come across a seller a while back who had a truly decent mix. I certainly did not expect the rolls were unsearched--that was a given. Over time I picked up several dozen rolls with good results--nothing spectacular--but I felt I got some decent value with a number of die cracks, lamination peels, woodys, a few RPMs, and a few early teen S mints in G condition. One roll had six 1923 S mint coins in G-VG+ condition. |

I am searching a little bit of everything I guess I haven't really narrowed down what I am doing. I started this whole venture to try to help out with money while I was on disability and as it turned out I found a bunch of awesome coins in my opinion and ended up not selling anything yet simply because we didn't need the money after all. Plus I had no clue where to sell or how much to sell for. Now it's become a kind of hobby for me. Still keeping everything organized in snack bags with sharpie markers for the dates but trying to get holders and flips to keep everything better

If you're just searching for penny errors and the date range is prior to 1959...buy a few bags. Most dealers really don't pick out errors, just varieties (DDs)...if you are going for more current coins then go for bank boxes...forget about ordering.

The 100% sure way to avoid being cheated with CRH'ing is to source your coin rolls from a bank. All obtained at face value. Build the main body of your collection by this method. It it comes to finding errors, mm's, dates and varieties that you don't have, then the more efficient way may well be to acquire them via ebay. By using this approach, you are not acquiring lots of other coins you may already have and don't need, as well as having to pay for the shipping fees for those coins not needed. That way, you can pick the market specifically for the coins that you do need, that may otherwise require months or even years, in trying to find them from bank rolls. |

Like others have mentioned, why pay a premium for shipping/unknowns when you can buy them at face value at a credit union or ahem...a bank.
