Thank you gentlemen! Nice one NumisRob! I think yours may be from a different source to mine cos if you look at the edge beads nearest the top lion's head the ones on mine don't line up as well as yours. I like the way you can see a pronounced lip round the part of the reverse edge between 7 and 9 o'clock too.

This is a counterfeit £2 coin featuring Anthony Dufort's Britannia. Sorry it's not a full size pic but I took it years ago before I knew about this forum. As you can see Her Maj's effigy is definitely not quite up to Ian Rank Broadley's standard, even though these coins only came out with Jody Clark's image! The reverse is devoid of lettering and I can't remember the edge inscription. Mr Dufort joked about the fact that it was the only time he'd ever shared a coin with Ian Rank Broadley.

Well now, this is what you'd expect the middle of the reverse of a big standard £2 coin to look like...

Yep! There are some real corkers out there! I'm almost upset that so many got melted down when they brought the new 12 sided pound coins out. There must have been a huge variety of mix-and-match examples - a bit like Taylor's 19th century quasi-Soho tokens but lacking the quality. Getting a bit late now. I'll dig a couple more out tomorrow.

Hello. Here are some pics of counterfeit round pounds. There are two examples, which both say they're from 2003. The first one is I think pretty good except for the pronounced lip round the edge and would easily pass as genuine till you look really closely at the details of the Royal Arms and the Unicorn, whose chain could be interpreted as a bladder problem...

Here's another one from purportedly the same year but not so well produced. It seems the coin it was copied from had already had a bit of a life, and a lot of the detail on both faces is either really crude or missing. This led me to conclude that more than one group of counterfeiters were at work, which was borne out by subsequent news stories.
