Quote: Fake 1894 Spanish 5 Pesetas. Fakes like this have been seen in street markets all over Spain since the early 1980s I remember seeing fakes like this (and similar Spanish 5 Pesetas coins going back to 1871) in the mid-1960s in the markets In Palma, Majorca and Barcelona.

Hiya Dearborn. Here's the pics. It could of course be a genuine 5/- overstrike on a counterfeit 8 Reales...

Greetings Numismatics. I'm not sure if it's fake but I can't find any similar coinage error. Just certifying it.

Gamezcal, it's real, but heavily damaged. Not an error.

to the CCF, Gamezcal! Your cent does not look counterfeit. Rather, it has suffered mechanical damage (a scrape) and an acid trip.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

@Spyro: thanks for posting up that coin Unfortunately it is above my level of understanding on it. May I suggest that you start a brand new topic for this coin in the appropriate area and give the experts examine it.

Hiya. Two things. First, I've just looked at Pertinax's 2 pounder and Her Maj's hair and profile don't look right to me. Interesting though cos the reverse looks pretty convincing, though I'd like to see a close-up of the pattern in the centre.
Second, as regards my overstruck 8 Reales, at least one source of information tells me the original weight may have varied, so without knowing the date of the original coin I'm a bit stuck...
