I recently picked this up. What are your opinions on a grade. I am trying new lighting on my photos. Any suggestions on that would be appreciated.   The first two pictures are with minimal accent light. I use this setup to show maximum surface details.   The last two I used my desk lamp with removes lens and put my camera through the hole.  |

Reverse in particular appears lightly cleaned or mishandled. This is a hard one to call.

Some of those light hairlines might be die polishing lines. There might be a trace of wear on the wingtip, but I'd go with MS-63. Hard to assess the surfaces with the lighting.

It looks like a nice coin but it may be lightly polished. Like stated above, the pictures make it a little tough to tell if it's been cleaned.

Yes, this is a proof. GC beat me to the punch.
I think they will pass it with a straight grade given that some proofs from this era were handled and wiped/cleaned directly by the Mint or Treasury employees to keep them "presentable" for potential buyers.
I call it Proof 64 net 63, full grade. Needs to be slabbed unless you're building a Proof Morgan Dansco or something else equally outrageous.

Thanks everyone. Are those hairlines common in Morgan proofs. Someone here called them die polishing lines.
I checked my other proofs and they are there. They are only visible under high magnification.
I will slab it eventually but I won't have enough coins to send in until maybe next year.

I agree they are probably die polishing lines (at least the ones in the fields that all go the same direction) but there are also a few hairlines particularly on the reverse as Mr. Frog noted.

PF63 I think the amount of missing luster holds it from a 64 but this is a tough one if not in hand

I think the hairlines will hold it to PR-63. Still a great coin.

I just got it back from grading. Thought you would like to have another stab at it.
