I know that there were Julia Domna denarii and aurei issued with similar reverse iconography - Venus in 3/4 rear view with palm frond over shoulder, left elbow resting on a column, right arm raised. I don't know if there were typologically similar AE's issued. If not, I suppose the question is whether this is modern or perhaps an ancient base core for a fouree - or other unofficial issue. I suppose our Roman experts will know.

In the meantime I did spot a Rome mint As on the Domna page at Wildwinds. RIC 846.

Well if the coin is only 2 grams or less I think the bronze core of a fouree silver denarius below is probably a good bet Bob. Do we have a weight?

Manry;

I think you probably mean 1.1 grams not 11 grams. Looking at the photo of your coin in your hand that is not a coin of 11 gram weight as it would have to be about 25 mm or more. Your photo is of a much smaller coin.

Well you are showing an "as" size and weight coin but I am only finding a sestertius coin for this. Maybe someone else has a link. Here is the link to the sestertius type Bob was talking about.

Joe, the Wildwinds coin I posted is listed there as an As, but with no weight provided. Description below.

Julia Domna AE As. Rome mint. AD 193-196.

Rev: VENERI VICTR, Venus, naked to waist, standing right,
resting right elbow on a column, holding apple in extended
left hand, palm branch over shoulder. S-C across fields.

RIC IV-1 846; Cohen 196; BMCRE 498; Sear 6647.
Rated rare.
