Thanks for the great forum. I am really new at coin collecting and have embarked on collecting the modern commeratives. I have studied the prices but I am still confused. For example the 2005 Marine Corps is listed at 500.00 in PCGS but that is crazy.
There is a listing for it on e-bay right now for MS70 NGC for 59.99. I have seen this over and over with those PCGS prices. Why is there such disparity?
Welcome to the forum. A note on the PCGS price list ... that is the highest price realized for for a particular PCGS-graded coin in that type and grade. As PCGS doesn't award many 70 grades, these are truly stellar pieces. Don't use the PCGS guide for determining values of Raw coins or those slabbed by other companies. Use a current grey sheet of RedBook to get the ballpark. A decent price for the average (MS69) USMC $1 would be $40-$50. That NGC coin would be a 69 in a PCGS holder 99 out of 100 times.
