Just checking out the upcoming TCNC auction. Lot 927 is a roll of 1948 dollars, toning matched, 7 are ICCS MS-65, wow, nice lot...
So when this many coins come to the market at once, does this push down the price of the coin?
Curious on everyone's thoughts

If they hit the market all at once individually I could see a blip in pricing. But as these were already known to be in existence I would assume that their population has already been accounted for (market value wise). If 2 serious bidders get involved it could actually help the historical market price.

I just hope that they weeded out all the possible fakes .. the most faked Canadian coin in existence

I don't think the pricing of the 48 Dollars will be affected at all. These will easily be absorbed into the market.

That's quite the auction lot! I don't see one roll hurting the market for the 1948. There is plenty of pent-up demand for the higher grades, and I see collectors upgrading if these hit the market. It might draw attention to the series and end up boosting prices.
My wife has already hinted that her EF-40 could use an upgrade. eeep! Needless to say, an MS-65 won't be part of the discussion!

That is a lot I would avoid . When you see that yellowish gold Hazy Colouration , it is due to improper storage ( possible PVC) and NOT toning. If those dollars were sent into PCGS or NGC , I would bet that most would NOT straight grade , and they would recommend Conservation. ICCS completely misses on this particular hazy issue . The issue can sometimes be resolved ( if the Gold haze is light ) with a very quick dip in 50 per cent Sudsy Ammonia and Distilled H2O . Also I looked at all of TCNC pictures , there is one coin with reverse Counting wheel damage and some of the coins are pretty baggy . PS: I learned the hard way on an original Tube of 1949 Dollars years back .

Looks like they did not sell. Probably need to be holdered in PCGS if conservation is possible

Quote: Looks like they did not sell. Probably need to be holdered in PCGS if conservation is possible With all due respect, I don't believe that's the reason at all. Depressed coin market is more like it.

I would think regardless of market conditions coins of this nature would be more marketable in PCGS slabs, especially higher the grade.

"With all due respect, I don't believe that's the reason at all. Depressed coin market is more like it. " Respectfully, I do not agree. No one is going to layout north of 100K on a group of coins that have a dubious appearance and no assurance of not "no grading" with the largest TPG. The first question that would pop up with any serious buyer is why were these coins not submitted to PCGS? I personally buy the coin and not the holder but I can tell you that I did not like what I saw. I have seen many 1948 dollars in my life including quite a few 65's and even a 66 and none in 65 or better were as softly struck as these were. My father in law has a roll that I assembled for him many years ago and even gifted him some of the coins including a couple of 65s and they look nothing like these. The 65 I gave him and the 66 I sold in my personal collection were directly from a former mint employee coming from a nice group one of the dealers managed to buy. Completely different look! https://coins.ha.com/itm/canada/wor...ption-071515

Have to concur with you Mr . Belzberg . Would be very interesting to see how the Conserving of these 1948 Dollars would turn out . Based on my professional opinion and experience not too well, is a good guess! That yellowish haze is very very tricky to deal with . This lot is certainly not in the positive eye appeal category IMHO .

I happen to know the present owner of the lot, it was bought privately after the sale. I believe it will be broken up, in my opinion, they'd straight grade with very few issues. LRC
