Received several coin setes in Mint Packs which are obviously non proof coins. Tried to find out if indeed S produced non proof coins, without finding answers. Could any one provide me with an answer?

The San Francisco mint has produced LOTS of business strikes in addition to the proof they are known for. In the '60s they even produced business strikes with no S mint mark at all.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

San Francisco was a regular mint until it closed temporarily in 1955 - all proofs were made in Philadelphia until 1964.
From 1965-1967, no proofs were made, and no coins had mintmarks. Government tried to use coin collectors as a scapegoat for the coin shortage, and deliberately tried to make coins less exciting to "discourage hoarding".
San Francisco took over proof production in 1968, but it still continued to strike some business strikes: - Cents until 1974 - Nickels until 1970 - Anthony dollars from 1979-1981
On an as-needed basis, San Francisco also helps in making mintmark-less business strikes which are indistinguishable from Philadelphia coins (West Point does this as well).
San Francisco also makes some S-mint business strike coins, but they are collector's gimmicks, not circulating coins.

As Yokozuna mentioned, San Francisco has minted Proof, Uncirculated, and Circulated coins for many years. What bothers me is your use of "Received several coin sets in Mint Packs". What exactly do you mean by "Mint Packs"? Are you referring to sets from the US Mint, with the hard plastic? If so, I'm 98% sure all the coins in the pack will have "S" mint marks, and will be Proof coins. armandog07, if you can explain more (or post pics) of your new coins it would be appreciated.

Mint cellos were used for proof and business strike coins for several years. Proof sets in the plastic holders took over later. (not sure when they started)

He is probably looking at Mint sets from 1968 to 1974, and yes those sets do have uncirculated S mint cents in them, The 1968 to 70 sets also have S mint five cent pieces but no Philadelphia five cent pieces..Philadelphia did not make five or fifty cent pieces from 1968 to 1970.

The coins I refer to, are in the soft (cellophane) wrap, not in the hard plastic rectangular box. Those S coins (lincoln cents and Nickels) arrived within the same wrap and mixed with Denver and Philapdelphia mint coins

The S coins are 1968, 1969 and 1970 Nickels and, 1968 to 1974 Lincoln cents
