Ive recently found a 1o82 small date penny that weighs 3.1 grams. Do I have something. I thought the weight had to be 3.11grams

Without a CLEAR photo of the coin (obverse up on a scale) it will be hard to give ya any advice.

If you can post pictures of the coin we can help. A copper alloy coin should weigh 3.11 grams and a copper plated zinc coin should weigh 2.5 grams. The real question here is if the coin is a small date or large date. Here's a side-by-side of the two dates.

The first thing we will need is a picture to confirm it is a small date. Hundreds of people have come though claiming they have found an 82 D copper small date cent, not one has had one so far.
