If you can post pictures of the coin we can help. A copper alloy coin should weigh 3.11 grams and a copper plated zinc coin should weigh 2.5 grams. The real question here is if the coin is a small date or large date. Here's a side-by-side of the two dates.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!
The first thing we will need is a picture to confirm it is a small date. Hundreds of people have come though claiming they have found an 82 D copper small date cent, not one has had one so far.
