For sure Ethiopian, but I see a broken off ring on the top so most likely a token imitating a Birr I think. Can you please add a close-up shot of that part of the rim? Thx.

The portrait is Emperor Menelik II ( or "Manelik" ) of Ethiopia, ruled 1889-1913. The Ethiopian calendar years are 7 less than Western.
