The ear lobe on this 1988 D Penny stands out to me. Could this be a Double ear variety for this coin?

Any information you can provide is appreciated.

For this year, I feel the doubling would be on the outer devices.....others?

If I'm seeing what you're seeing, this is not a doubled ear, but instead the light highlighting similarly worn areas on the ear and in the hair a bit northwest of the ear. Greasy Fingers is correct -- all attributed doubled dies for 88-D are on the outer devices, at least from what I saw after looking on VV, Wexler, and CC.
