2004 D Nickel Different Planchet Or Bad Plating?

This nickel was among the uncirculated nickels I opened, it is dark, almost grey, but it still has a shine. It's the nickel on the right, the left is for comparison.

What's going on with this?

Well nickels are not plated. Circulation is not kind to coins. Best to find the good ones in the original rolls.

This was in the original roll, this came from an entire roll of uncirculated 2004 d Louisiana purchase roll from Loomis and fargo
