Germany 5 pfennig 1875G.
I have sold off a bunch of these small denomination German coins for a relative, whose father (died 2013) brought them back after his service in what we call the "European theater" in World War II. He survived the Battle of the Bulge and died just a few weeks short of his 90th birthday. It struck me as odd that there were 10 times more German empire coins than Weimar or 3d Reich issues. It also struck me as odd that coins from the 1870s were still in circulation in the 1940s (at least I am assuming they just came out of circulation). I realize these types were produced in large quantites and multiple mints over nearly 40 years, but I never bothered to compare the mintage figures with the types hat came after.
