This Solidus was minted at Thoron Prussia, under Polish rule. It is dated 1529 AD:   "If you climb a good tree, you get a push."

Nice one! I have beat up older brother to your 1529 coin, a solidus minted in Torun/Thorn. 1528 is the earliest dated coin from this mint (I suspect that will be true of many coins from other places posted here in the coming weeks).   |

This uniface Pfennig from the Austrian State of Steiermark and dated 1527 AD is tiny--about 13 mm and 0.3 g.   "If you climb a good tree, you get a push."

1526 Poland grosz/groschen. Since the late 1300s, kwartniks (8 denars), halfgroats (12 denars) and schillings (18 denars) were the largest denominations circulating in Poland-Lithuania. In 1526 Sigismund issued the first 1 grosz/groschen coins in the Krakow mint since a small emission by Casimir III two centuries earlier. The grosz is STILL a denomination of Polish coins today!   |

Nice one @tdz! Here is a 2 Pfennig from the Austrian State of Salzburg that is dated 1525 AD. I have it attributed as Probst 281 and Schulten 4320.   "If you climb a good tree, you get a push."

1525 Lithuanian half groat. Hopefully a lot more of these will be posted over the next two plus weeks. One of the most accessible dated types from the early 1500s.   Edited by tdziemia

I won't be posting anything from Lithuania for a few days, but then I too will have a nice run of them. Here is a Ottoman Akce dated 926 AH, which is roughly equivalent to 1524 AD. The dramatic difference in condition on the two sides might mean that this coin was mounted in jewelry at one point. I'd be happy to have others put forward competing explanations! Here is a Batzen from the German Free City of Isny dated 1523 AD. I have it attributed as Saurma 1516 and Schulten 1383:   "If you climb a good tree, you get a push."

Love the variety you have in these decades! My contributions will be a bit monotonous, since for Poland collectors, the Lithuanian half groats are the only dated option between 1523 and 1511. 1523 Lithanian half groat.   Edited by tdziemia

Finally time to make a contribution again (my last one, alas, no more datable coins from me for as far as this thread can be expected to reach). Lorraine, teston, 1523.   Ok @tdziemia, you got me to buy my first Lorraine coin!  The inscription is interesting, with an odd form for the letter "H" and with "4" used as a shorthand for the Latin suffix "-rum" in two places (as discussed some time ago in another thread). |
