Quote: I get that the years end up weird, like at 758 / 759 and 790 / 791, but where do we draw the line deciding which month of an AD year should decide the AH year? (if that makes sense) The rules I used for conversion were that the minting period should be a year or less, in which case it is counted for the AD year that its larger part is in. If your converter can do days and not just years, this is probably best approximated by using the date for 1 Rajab. (I hadn't realized that this is an option when originally doing the conversions, so I had to count the days in the two halves by hand!) The conversions do get somewhat tricky close to the boundary because it's not always clear whether the AD date to be converted into should be the Julian or Gregorian one - and a lot of the converters silently do one or the other without telling you which it was! This comes up roughly every 33 years; in the relevant range, the hard-to-convert AD years are 1438, 1405, 1373, 1341, 1308, and the hard-to-convert AH years are 842, 808, 774, 741, 707 (give or take a year). I've mentioned it when the 1400s came up on the Walking Back 3.0 thread; here's my listing of some conversions, and here's a later discussion of 807 AH in particular (where 1 Rajab falls in early January 1405 but the exact date depends on the converter you're using).

@january1may, I need to digest this issue some more later today to get my head around it. You may need to adjust your listing of some of my coin dates. To be continued........

Corrected listing (yet again...) for the remainder of 15th and 14th centuries, with updates from @ttkoo. We're slowly chipping away at the big gaps in the 1400s and 1390s (only six missing dates left), and my comment about probably not being able to post my 1387 (AH 789) coin in the 6th edition before the 7th catches up is looking a lot less certain now. (I'm hoping there wouldn't be any more overly big stalls in the 7th edition after Spence returns, at least.) There are far fewer gaps in the 1380s and 1370s, so maybe we'd even get all the way to my next entry after that, at 1374 (AH 776), though the date on that one is a little doubtful (it belongs to a somewhat mysterious type where all known examples seem to have the same date but some of them mangle it in different ways). 1410 (AH 813) - on the way to ttkoo 1409 - JohnConduitt, tdziemia 1408 - tdziemia 1407 - tdziemia 1406 (AH 809) - on the way to ttkoo 1405 - JohnConduitt, Spence, tdziemia; on the way to ttkoo 1404 (AH 806) - none found? 1403 - tdziemia; on the way to ttkoo (AH 805) 1402 (AH 804) - on the way to ttkoo 1401 (AH 803) - on the way to ttkoo 1400 (AH 802) - on the way to ttkoo? 1399 (AH 801) - on the way to ttkoo 1398 (AH 800) - JohnConduitt; on the way to ttkoo 1397 (AH 799) - on the way to ttkoo 1396 (AH 798) - none found 1395 (AH 797) - none found 1394 (AH 796) - none found 1393 - tdziemia 1392 (AH 794) - none found 1391 - tdziemia 1390 (AH 792) - none found 1389 - SilverDon1388 - tdziemia 1387 - january1may 1386 (AH 788) - JohnConduitt1385 - EddieDiz 1384 - tdziemia 1383 - EddieDiz, JohnConduitt, Spence, ttkoo 1382 - Collects82 1381 (AH 783) - none found 1380 (AH 782) - JohnConduitt1379 (AH 781) - none found 1378 - tdziemia 1377 (AH 779) - none found 1376 - tdziemia 1375 - Spence 1374 (AH 776) - january1may? 1373 - tdziemia 1372 (AH 773) - none found 1371 (AH 772) - none found 1370 (AH 771) - JohnConduitt1369 (AH 770) - JohnConduitt1368 (AH 769) - none found 1367 (AH 768) - none found 1366 - ttkoo 1365 (AH 766) - JohnConduitt1364 (AH 765) - none found 1363 - JohnConduitt, tdziemia 1362 (AH 763) - JohnConduitt1361 - bd251, JohnConduitt1360 (AH 761) - JohnConduitt1359 (AH 760) - JohnConduitt1358 (AH 759) - JohnConduitt1357 (AH 758) - none found? Quote: As promised, the updated listing with newer data! Outstanding! Regarding the AH to AD/CE conversions, my calculator shows an anomaly between 1406/809 and 1405/807, where AH808 seems to straddle the two CE years. I had a note to address that when we got there. Comments are welcome.

This matches my data as well; I didn't cover it in my listing because Spence had an AD dated coin for 1405 (and no one on the relevant threads had an AH 808 coin).
