I have better photos of the coin, what do you think this would grade?

I'll say AU-55 based on the wear on the eagle's leading wing.

AU-55,

No it doesn't hits, dings and such don't play a factor in a grade on a circulated grade, unless it would otherwise detail it, ie. scratched, damaged, rims filed, holed, ect.

This sort of thing is not unusual on soft gold coins.

Thanks guys, since we think it is ~AU55, would it be "worth it" to send to NGC?

I am new to the Coin World and have already overpaid for this coin - $400.00

I would be new to NGS and need to purchase their membership as well as grading fee.

I'd say XF-45. I don't think it would be worth grading. The only benefit would be to verify authenticity.

I would put it in the $250 range. There was a recent sale on ebay of a 1909 $2.50 AU 55 Details Cleaned ANACS for $257.

I never would have thought of a cleaning, though hindsight 20/20 it is a bit apparent. Benefits of seeing a coin in hand.

The blank fields on the reverse are the area that easily shows a cleaning. When you get the coin in hand tilt back and forth and look for the hairlines.

The $2.50 Indian Gold is a risky series to collect raw unless you are an good at grading and detecting counterfeits.

I have been working on doing the series in AU58 except for the 1911 D. I picked up the following on ebay in the last three months.
1909 NGC AU58 $295
1910 PCGS AU58 $305
1914 PCGS AU58 $310
You can beat some of my prices by buying at Heritage or Great Collections. I have been using ebay because of the 8% to 10% ebay Bucks.
