That's very interesting. This is the first I've seen this. Have you run across many other bills canceled with "Düren"?
I guess a future side-shoot of my Düren collection will be towns that have notes canceled with a Düren stamp!

Hello @schmidty - my Celle piece with the overprint can be seen as scarce for sure. I have only seen it the once......and took my opportunity to pounce! It's not catalogued anywhere as far as I am aware but I will be including it in my 'ELUSIVE GEMS' book at some time, which covers the very rare and scarce pieces one doesn't see often........not even in the catalogues. I'll probably publish a revised addition next year as I have a few additions to add. What is your link or affinity with Dueren? Have a nice day everyone.

Years ago I was in a coin store, and they had a four-for-a-dollar tray of unidentified tokens and foreign coins. In it was a interesting coin with an image of a soldier on the obverse. The reverse said: 10 Stadt Düren 1918 It was my introduction to Notgeld. I went home and researched what it was and learned all about both the city of Düren as well as the world of Notgeld. I saw I could never collect ALL the Notgeld, so I thought I'd start with every piece released by the city of Düren. Fifteen (intermittent) years later I still don't have a complete set. I have all the coins, but not all the notes. My biggest handicap is not understanding German (I am finally, seriously working to remedy that). So I have an ebay saved search that pops up every time something from Düren is posted. If it's something I don't yet have, I try to win it. Judging by the ones I've seen in other collections, and the ones that got away in auctions, I'm only a few -scarce- notes away from completing the collection. I'm going to Germany, and Düren, in two weeks. I'm hoping when I'm there to figure out exactly which notes I'm missing so I at least have a list and can know when I am done and can move on to the next collection!

The city of Dueren issued paper notgeld from 5 different notgeld categories : Kriegsgefangenenlager (P.O.W.), Serienscheine, Grossgeld 1918, Inflation 1922 & Inflation 1923. The serienscheine pieces are the 9 different cut from a 100 mark note and stamped either 25 or 50 or 75pf - 3 of each.......left, centre and right portions of the original 100 mark note that was cut into 3. You have all those?

Haha...yes!
I do need to better discern between the different categories. Learning German will obviously help with that. And more books. There's always room on the numismatic shelves for more books!

I don't have the very bottom note (but I want it!!! ). And I have the 2 pfennig "stamp" (what exactly are these for? ) but not the 1, 10, or 50. All the rest I have (and then some), and some of them I have multiple versions of; different block letter, two different Burgermerister signatures, or different serial number stamps being the main variety differences. For instance, I have two different varieties of that Zwei Millionen Mark: one with, and one without, the star after the serial number.

The bottom 2 notes (10 + 50 mark) are the scarce pieces.....
