I wish I had done German at school - here I am all these years later, muddling through! Anyway - this morning I found this very low serial numbered piece and thought I would 'pair' it with a very high serial numbered piece. I guess there must have been nearly a million pieces of this note issued. Its quite amazing really when you consider this is just one note out of hundreds of thousands of different issues.

Google translate is a very handy app which I have installed. It automatically changes any German I am reading into English. The big problem is actually reading the old German texts and typing it into the translator. All good fun though when you find a really nice story. I have a couple of colleagues that speak German so that can be a real benefit. If I go to Germany, I expect to find someone who speaks English. I know its lazy but we won the war......so in a way it is good I'm not speaking German

In case anyone did not know, the Google Translate app can use your camera to translate signs, printed text, etc. It is not perfect, but works rather well all things considered. I have used it to check my son's Spanish homework and to translate notes in this topic with some success. Now my secret is out!

Teehee - there is always something, for sure. If anyone is really interested in very rare serienscheine pieces, my book 'ELUSIVE GEMS' has a few. Hopefully as you are mostly 'over the pond' from me, you'll know 'LuLu'.

Here are 4 pieces from Eberswalde. One of the eagles in the shield/coat-of-arms is red. On the other 2 pieces one has a raised stamp mark, the other doesn't.

There are several different Saints' that can be found on notgeld- look out for the halo around the head (usually coloured yellow). This is St George, patron of Göttingen's shooting club, the 'Schützenbruderschaft St Georg', established in 1873.
