Hello, Do you think these coins are cleaned or not? And what would you grade them considering the observe only A seller send me those pics (the coins are Lebanon 50 piastres 1933,1936 and 25piastres )
It's a little hard to be certain from those pictures. However silver oxidizes over time and tarnishes...old silver coins are therefore almost always toned which those aren't. That's often a tell-tale sign. Another is fine little scratches that tend to sort of align with each other - these occur when a coin is scrubbed but can usually only be seen under magnification.
Luster looks to be reasonably undisturbed. Perhaps it was cleaned with acetone, but acetone is unable to remove patina, so I guess that there wasn't much patina to begin with.
I have no idea how to grade these, but my guess is that they may be around AU condition, and thus one of the reasons for not having a patina.
