Any idea what happened here the holes meet in the middle so what ever happened happened to both sides simultaneously.

Somebody drilled a tiny pilot hole and then started drilled a bigger one from each side.

@vchamanial, anything imaginable has been done to coins over the years. There is not necessarily a reason or an end goal. Pure speculation may be as correct an answer as any.

I heard those stories (also) when I was a kid, but was too worried of being banned from the arcade for using a stringed quarter
