My name is Dave I'm not really new it's just been a long time I forgot my username. I think this quarter was damaged at the mint what do you guys think?

That looks like PMD to me. The damage is on both sides like some kind of cutter was used. Eager to see what others say.

Yes, it is damage. PMD
If it was a die crack, it would be raised, not incuse.
It would also be unusual to have it on both sides.

So what is going on with the I in America and there is some good detail in those marks for cutters or pliers.

just lots of damage on this coin. It also looks as if it circulated for some time with the damage. But that's just a guess.

Why is this not a mint error? Because it didn't happen at the time of the strike. Later in its life, the coin was altered. PSD (Post-Strike-Damaged)
