G'Day Enworb and welcome to the thread and yes there are some places in South Aus that you can still find gold,As the years have gone by the nugget tally has shrunk, where we use to talk in ounces we now talk in grams but by the same token we are still finding gold in all 6 states (there are some places in Tassie but I'm not familiar with them)
So just to answer your 1st question 1000 ounces to 1 gram depends on how lucky you are,if you read more you will see how much I have cashed in lately also some years I spend months in the bush looking so between 4 weeks to 10 weeks looking.
Question 2:You can pay anywhere from $3,000 to $6,500 for a detector there are cheaper one's but if you want to have the best you have to pay through the nose for it,mine set me back $6,500 dollars and it's the top of the range Minelab (GPX5000),I could have brought a second hand GPX4500 that's almost as good for $3,500 but I already have one LOL,you do have a choice of many detectors but for Aussie conditions Minelab (made in Sth.Aust.)was the way to go.
Question 3:Yes there are several places to go in Sth Aust and some are not to far from Adelaide (Algebuckino,Angepena,Barossa,Bismark,Boolooroo and Chapmans Gully just to name a few) and some are out in the desert (Taltabooka,Teetulpa and Ulooloo with many more sites not named here),Doug Stone's books are a good reference to many a gold area so my advice is to pick up one of his books and learn more.
Question 4:There a bit of both depending on the farmers permission but most would be on forestry land in Victoria(with miners right)or farmers permission in N.S.W.also a 20A in W.A.,as with any lease if your not in with the partners you can't work it or any privet lease.
I hope this helps you for your gold prospecting future
regards Harry
