Love that 1876- tough to find those 70's coins in an attractive problem-free, condition, really in any grade.

Today's coin is an 1868 IHC in XF45. This is the last of the somewhat easy coins, the next group are harder to find and more costly. The 1868 were actually pretty common until the US Mint started melting all the excess coins and are now hard to find in any grade except for very low (G to F). Many were whizzed in the 60's like most of the low mintage coins from 1866 to 1872.

I do have 1 more IHC in transit, this one was what I would consider an actual upgrade. Of the coins I slabbed one I was surprised with the grade and it was one that I did want to upgrade. I have a saved search and it popped up at a good price, before anyone else purchased it I jumped on it. After that it will be a few weeks till I get the next one, based on my estimates the 11 coins missing are going to cost around $5000, so like I said, maybe a while to finish this set.

So I had a choice, get the 2022 S Proof ASE or a 1879 in AU 55.... The IHC won out.

I would have done the same - you can easily find the proof ASE anytime you want, but getting just the right IHC for a date and grade you need can be a bit more difficult... BTW, that's an attractive example there.
