At work we receive some of our raw materials from Europe. I was told that the problem is twofold:
1) Fewer transcontinental flights means that the movement of goods overseas has slowed
2) It is taking longer for goods to clear customs. In one instance we waited over a month for product that typically moves through in days. Maybe it is a staffing issue?
Regardless, this was enough for me to avoid buying from overseas in the short-run. In recent weeks I have seen things slowly returning to normal, but we still are nowhere near where things were pre-covid.

It seems that the problem of delivering coins is particularly acute. I am very concerned about this because I often encounter the reluctance of the seller to send coins to Russia. I think this is a problem not so much for Russian post as for greedy customers. I also hate my country because of the law that prohibits us from exporting coins and currency. Does anyone know countries with similar laws ?

What is bothering me is that people have realized that items have slowed in the post, and as such are making claims very aggressively, which ebay will gladly refund even if tracked! One customer (who I will not name here yet, as I have just reached out to them) had the gall to post an item back up for sale on ebay about a week after making a claim / getting refunded, and at over 3 times what I sold it to him for!

Problem is with E-bay and Paypal. E-bay needs to adjust the delivery times to reflect the current situation and Paypal needs to not refund money because an item (especially a tracked one) has not arrived in the given time. And therein lies the second problem. They are a rule unto themselves and trying to reason with them is a waste of time. If you have good feedback can you insist on an alternate payment method and explain why?

@David Graham - Don't even talk to me about ebay injustices... My selling account was suspended today based on cases as a result of COVID... Ive been selling with them since 2009 - and the guy I spoke to today basically confirmed that I am screwed, as they are not actually honoring their "no seller ratings will suffer as a result of COVID shipping delays" statement. Glad I have set up my own website (my username .com), but traffic is so low that it is hardly a replacement...

@norantyki - Sorry to hear that. Wish there was an alternative to e-bay with the same volume of accounts. Good luck.

@norantyki, I am also sorry to hear the news. It looks like things are close to normal again for shipments from Poland to U.S.? After I received a package from Rzeszow in 9 days, yesterday I received one mailed 6/2 from Poznan (14 days). But I am still waiting for coins from the March Niemczyk auction (but they said in late April they were waiting to ship).

Quote: It's a race from Elsen! @spence, it looks like "Good news/Bad news" on this shipment (presumably yours is there, too): Good news - USPS tracking shows that the item arrived in NYC this morning Bad news - the last package I had that came through this USPS facility sat there for 24 days! And then it went to Texas en route to Ohio (and I am still waiting for it... tomorrow will be 42 days).

Yeah I still got a whole lot of nothing from them. Of course my shipment from Germany still hasn't arrived yet either. Small problems to be sure, but I'll be excited to get these coins at some point!

My package from Belgium moved from NYC to Springfield, MA. So you might get yours first! Here's a quick roundup on how I've done with things that left Europe since 2d half of March: - Three auction houses held shipments from March auctions (1 Belgium, 2 Poland). First one released was Poland on May 7 arrived 29 days later, next was Belgium June 4, still awaiting arrival. The second Poland package will be combined with June auction wins. - Since the March shutdowns, in order of ship dates (and including the two shipments mentioned above): Germany 4/28 took 25 days to arrive Poland 5/7 took 29 d. France 5/11 took 43 d. Austria 5/12 took 28 d. Lithuania 5/27 not yet arrived (33 d.) Poland 5/28 took 9 d.(!) Poland 6/2 took 14 d. Belgium 6/4 not yet arrived (25 d.) Poland 6/12 not yet arrived (17 d.) Poland 6/17 took 10 days (!) I will comment that items with long shipment times tend to have a combination of a delay in getting across the ocean, PLUS a delay sitting in the U.S. "port" of arrival (NYC or Chicago for the ones I can see). @snowman mentioned this upthread for raw materials where he works, and it is also borne out in this case. Interesting that three shipments from Poland, which cannot be tracked, were the quickest.

Quote: It's a race from Elsen! Mine arrived yesterday (27 d in transit). I'm curious what you won at that auction. I got a 1478 Flanders groot for my early dated Low Countries series, a scarce Lorraine minor coin from the regency of CHarles III (not too great to look at, but one of only two issues from that period), and a medieval Liege florin with St. Lambert that I posted on the saints thread.

@tdz, well I missed the mailman and so got the slip of paper saying that my package is being held. I was able to plug a couple 15th Century holes in my OFEY collection. If we can ever get past 1460 AD, I'll be able to show them off.
