PCGS - Have you ever wondered why it's so difficult to find a 1945 Mercury dime from the Philadelphia Mint with full bands? PCGS estimates only 400 exist across all grades, and merely 100 in grades of MS65 or better. Compare that to the number of 1945-D Mercury dimes with FB details of 12,000 and 1945-S FB specimens at 5,000, with a population of 8,000 and 3,000 graded MS65FB or better, respectively. Our latest article (link below) explores the possibilities of why this coin is so hard to find with the FB designation. In MS66FB, like the example seen here, just 18 exist in PCGS holders and have market values around to $18,000. This price that would exceed the all-time record for a Denver minted PCGS MS68FB graded piece by almost $5,000.

To tell you the truth those center bands can be question by the most professional graders of all time . The Bands are virtually so close to full that I wouldn't gamble spending 10 or 15 thousand dollars on .

No fsb. Middle band is not fully split.

An absolutely amazing 45-P Merc. I searched for years at shows and dealer stocks looking for a 45 FSB, never found one. About 3/4 bands was the best I ever found.

A very nice example of a 1945 FB Mercury. Although the photo provided in the OP is actually an ANACS 64 FB that sold for $5,520 via Heritage at the 2018 ANA.
