Common date, well-circulated wheat cents (like this one) are worth a few cents apiece. In this condition the coin is only worth a few cents, but as with all coins the value will vary with the year they were minted. I say keep this coin in your collection until you find a better one. Your 1944 had more going against it than oxidation toning. It has many scratches, and nicks from being in circulation. Believe it or not you might find a nearly uncirculated example in a penny roll (my guess is that happens when a family cleans up after the death of a casual collector and puts the pennies in a coin roll to turn into the bank.
