Is it possible to grade since in the mint pack still—i noticed this yr and FBL above MS 65 value really goes up—other than the crinkling of the cellophane it looks perfect to me—thanks

Very difficult to grade through plastic.

Agreed, glare on lower right makes it a little tricky to tell. Upper line to the left of the bell crack looks a little weak for FBL designation, but again, could be the pics.

I know: would love to have a high grade MS with FBL which I prob would get slabbed if above MS 65 but I dont want to break up the mint set if its not—to me the coin looks great other than a poss weak FBL but I am a novice for sure

Is it possible to have it Third Party Graded and have a certificate issued, without it having to be taken out of (and thus destroying) the original mint packaging?
Rest in Peace

From looking though the cellophane it really does look like a beauty . For me FBL is only if the top 3 lines on the bell are full with no disruptions , on this coin they are . I would love to give this Franklin an MS-66 FBL but the cellophane detracts considerably . Might want to think about removing it and if the coin still shows a clean surface with no ticks or hair lines ; Send It In !

Very nice coin! Given the challenge of grading through packaging, I'd venture this is a strong MS65.

Imag8r, this is certainly an MS65 coin. As for the FBL designation, check out the link below for what PCGS needs to grant the FBL designation. Good luck.

Looking at the PCGS article, it would seem to indicate they only look at the bottom lines to determine FBL—i think my coin does have FBL but the light glimmers to the right end—will have to relook at the coin

Well first of all It's a 66 or 67+ IMHO . If your going by the bottom lines of the bell , I don't think they are full . But if you go by the upper lines I say there's a 99.9% chance they're FBL . Gorgeous coin .

Looking at the strength, reflectivity and packaging of the coin it looks a lot like a proof to me, not a business strike.
Edit: you can especially tell in the last two pictures by looking at the eagle and EPU.

Imag8r that is a proof set, not a mint set. You can see all of those coins are proofs, and that seal only comes in proof sets, not mint sets. Unfortunately this mean the half dollar is just an average proof coin.
Edit: Proof coins were struck in Philadelphia in the 50s. They did not move to San Francisco until years later.
