The last coin from Germany for my Symphony Set: a 10 Mark 1998 commemorating the 900th anniversary of the birth of Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179). Hildegard von Bingen was a German Benedictine abbess (at the Bingen convent in the Palatine of the Rhine), who was active as a writer, composer, philosopher, mystic, visionary, and medical practitioner during the High Middle Ages. She is one of the most well-known composers of sacred monophony, as well as the most recorded in modern history.

Beautiful coin, brg5658! Next up is another coin from Austria commemorating Richard Strauss (1864-1949). He is considered a leading composer and conductor of the late Romantic and early modern era, best known for his tone poems and operas. His best-known works include "Elektra", "Der Rosenkavalier", "Ariadne auf Naxos", "Die Frau ohne Schatten", "Die ägyptische Helena", and "Arabella".
