I'm not clear on what "removed listings" means as it seems to imply some previous FS error identifiers have been removed in later editions of the book?

I would not expect a previously identified error to just no longer be cited, unless an obsolete numbering format problem caught them, maybe? Heh I bet FS didn't anticipate their huge success or the numbers of 'cherrypickers' their book would spawn.

(also this might have been clearer if I knew how to quote reply to a post... still learning)

All I know is from what others told me in this thread http://goccf.com/t/451270 which says the removed listings will remain in the cross reference table in an appendix. There's too much to publish so it seems like they faced a choice between being a true reference guide for all the FS-numbered varieties in every series, and being more of a "get rich from pocket change" type publication. They picked the latter, and inclusion is based on "popularity." TPGs do the same as far as which varieties they will designate. Of course this will make it difficult to ID your coins if you don't have the older editions.

To quote something, you put "quote" and "/quote" inside [] brackets with the text in between. Then it shows up

Or go to full reply, paste in your quoted text, highlight it, and click the "insert quote" icon in the format section of buttons. It's rather awkward.

Ughh. I can see the popularity though, imagine actually having a chance to find some value cherrypicking modern change.

You're almost there with the quote thing. You need left [ and right ] brackets instead of ".
Popularity is a chicken and egg thing with CPG. If they publish it, immediately people start looking for it, and then it's popular. If it's popular already, they better publish it or their customers will think their book isn't relevant. The 1942/1 dime in the latter case for example - did they really need to assign it an FS number? That variety was well known long before CPG existed. And with this latest edition, if they published it, and people aren't all that interested, remove it. From a scholarly perspective, it's an odd paradigm.
