1909 VDB Lincoln Wheat Cent - Verdigris On Reverse?

It has a very nice toning to it and appears to be in real nice condition, but also has these 2 spots of what looks like Verdigris on the Reverse. How badly does this affect the grade and value of this coin.? Report this Post to the Staff

I'd put a thin layer of protective oil on it and seal it in a 2X2. It's a $20 coin to me. The damage doesn't hurt much - Maybe $25 w/o. ANA #R3154474 Report this Post to the Staff

I don't think the spots would hurt the value that much since they're pretty small and not too bad. Worst case it could knock it down one grade (in value anyways) from an AU to an XF. I got a weakness for VDB's, every time I see a nice one at a coin show I have to buy it! To answer your questions, it probably can be removed and stopped, it's up to you if you want to go that route. As for value, those 2 spots are small and probably would not affect the price much. Looks like a nice AU58 with a really nice strike and color!
