1886-S VAM2 Or VAM4 Or Just A Bad S Mint Mark

okiepb Pillar of the Community United States 1213 Posts	Posted 06/25/2020 8:51 pm Here's a 1886-S that appears to have an S/S mint mark (VAM4) or maybe a re-punched mint mark (VAM2). Perhaps it's just a messed up mint mark? Are the pictures detailed and clear enough to determine what it is? Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for your assistance. Report this Post to the Staff

Focus on the eastern vertical top bar of the 'S' You might have noticed that protrusion on your coin(upper curb bar) and looks like a split on the lower curb end, the reason you are asking possible VAM4 or VAM2. It's hard to decipher though with the pix you posted. The experts can help if you can take close up pix of your mint mark. Report this Post to the Staff

FlyingTiger Valued Member United States 152 Posts	Posted 03/11/2021 7:02 pm That's very beautiful coin you got there,very nice.Aren't Morgan's awesome in high grade like that were the face isn't all beat up.They are so cool.One thing That baffles me is that a date like the 1886-O can have like 8 million minted and be super rare in high grades.And they get really expensive to.There just isn't that many nice ones.
