Pennyer New Member United States 4 Posts	Posted 07/05/2020 2:10 pm Hi everyone, I am new to the group. I will contribute what I can, but just have about 5 years of experience. I like to go roll hunting with pennies and nickles. I came across this yesterday. Never seen something like this before (See attached photos). I just need a reality check. This is a Double die with a tear? The obverse where the date looks like the first press tore a copper layer off (can see the rim in the tear), then the second stamp pressed it back down? The edge on the left suggests this is a double die? Would this be worth certifying? If so, what company would do that? Thanks much for the help, greatly appreciated. FYI: The correct terminology is that the coins are minted, not stamped, and in the minting process, they are struck only once between two dies (one die for each side) called a strike. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 07/05/2020 3:07 pm I agree, that is looks more like a struck through debris as it affects the rim area. The weight should be a slight amount higher if the metal was added to the coin. Looks like the metal peeled and ended up there after the strike. Not a coin to have graded as already mentioned.
