nope never cleaned unless it was a long long time ago, hmmm ? thinking ?

Perhaps your obverse pic is misleading - it seems to show many cleaning hairlines in the right field.

This Coin was actually dug by me in 2005 . It was in brown soft soil 7 " down . Probably lost not many years from circulation. The scratches are from grainy soil when I retrieved it . The scratches were was but some aging has covered some of it . It was given a EF40 by the Metal Detecting club poll. lol .

Thanks for that clarification. I only meant to suggest that I don't think it would straight-grade at a TPG. Remarkable find for sure.

AU Details. TPG would more than likely call this Harshly Cleaned, due to the obverse scratches. They're just looking at the coin, not the story/background. Before you're explanation, like coinfrog, I thought cleaned. A TPG will do the same.

Nonetheless, very cool find for sure!
