Hey all! I found this interesting bicentennial quarter with a strange t-shape struck on both sides of the coin. The obverse strike error is larger than the reverse, and in a different position on the coin. It almost looks like struck-through staple errors I've seen online, but it's not the right shape for it to be a staple. The curious thing is that it is on both sides of the coin. Let me know what your thoughts are - is this damage or a mint error? Have you ever encountered something like this?  *** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. What you have is a 'counterstamp' coin. They are quite common and many other examples can be seen here: http://goccf.com/t/126486life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved

 to the CCF!  It's not an error, it's counter stamped. The coin is showing intentional damage done by someone with a "T" shaped punch. ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

A damaged coin is a damaged coin. A true collector considers this as a face value coin. People save them and later on spend them when they realize the coin is a face value coin.

That might be DDO FS-101 though. Mint mark placement almost looks right. You might want to grab the loupe and check it out. I just found FS-102 recently so I'm pretty fresh on these Drummer Boys. The Doubling is most evident to the west of Liberty. I bet those counterstamps would be a whole lot cooler then! Good luck. |

Actually after thinking about it, it would just hurt even worse if this were 101... You might want to forget I mentioned it...
