I have no clue as how this one came to me, I don't remember buying it (I have a really good memory about my purchases, mainly because how few they are xD). Some months ago I was organizing some foreign coins and came into this one. After looking it up, it seems to be a 10 Pfennig made to circulate in a WWI POW camp for officers. Though it would be in german territory at the time, now it's in Poland. I also found out that the camp was placed in a place that was used as a boy's school before the war.

@gmp, an interesting piece. Any thoughts on the significance of the K G counterstamps? As mavericks, it is typically impossible to know.

My best guess is that it's supposed to mean "KRIEGSGEFANGENEM", that means prisoner of war. What intrigues me is that they went as far as to mint a currency bearing the camp's name to end up counter marking them with such stamps. Maybe to help illiterate people to differentiate from regular currency?

After doing some research I've found very similar designs used in private issues, so maybe the stamps are there to help people to differentiate. I've also found a 5 and a 50 Pfennig coin/token from the same place, but only the 5 had been stamped. In no other WWI POW camp token there seems to be similar markings.

Interesting! Likely the lack of stamps doesn't mean much...
