Here's a Photoshop image I made for Halloween. I made it to use as my Windows Desktop Background. I hope everyone has a safe but spooky holiday!

@Yokozuna
While I can appreciate graphics ability, I am sorry but will be a party pooper here. Please know what I say makes an assumption that you were just having fun, enjoying working with a graphics program, and, like so many today, the thought I am about to express never entered your mind.

I personally cringe when I see when a person so important to the personal freedoms we enjoy has his image altered in such a manner (technically defaced - but trying to use nicer words). The reason we can even post here online without fear of some overbearing official powers seeking us out for opinions they may not share is, in a huge way, due to the actions of George Washington.

He was a man with an amazing character who even who turned down being the King of America. Being a former history teacher, I used to make sure my students appreciated actual (not modern re-written) history of the US (using writings of the day). I made sure they were taught that because of men like Washington and our forefathers, America was called the Land of Opportunity and became the envy of the world. This is factual (think Ellis Island), and our forefathers are the reason for it.

So while I bear you absolutely no ill will, I hope you can understand why things such as this are disturbing to me. Unfortunately our society has largely forgotten, and lost a lot of appreciation for, the sacrifices people before us gave so we can enjoy what we have.

Since our society and "education" system is inundated with a lack of factual education and gratitude, and while we live in a day where American history is being rewritten to make our country look evil, it is understandable how things like this are innocently (note that word) overlooked.

While this is not related to the OP's post, I would just like to comment that I believe it's very important to neither make our history seem tarnished, or cover it in pride. Acknowledging both negatives and positives is what needs to happen. Negatives are important, as they allow us to reflect on our past, and cause it to not happen again. I believe it was the great philosopher Aristotle that said it is important to remember terrible history, so it doesn't repeat itself. However the United States is indeed spectacular and one of the greatest countries in the world, so understanding the great actions of the country is also important.

I will make no comment on the education system as it is, as my knowledge is very limited. However, as I said, filling history with positives is not good, and filling it will negatives can be even worse. Rather than do either, be realistic. Look at history as it is, from all different perspectives so you can formulate your own ideas and opinions on history as a whole.

Our histories past has a lot of injustices, but it also is full of achievements. We need to understand both.

Wisdom for sure. I used to use original writings and (copies of) documents for verification of what modern textbooks were claiming/not claiming. I figured the kids would get the best perspective this way - though the facts are unpopular with modern trends. The example I took was from my college Professors who, thankfully, did the same. Thankfully its easier with the internet now.

I think that's a spectacular way to teach. Looking at the evidence and then leaving it up for the students to form ideas is excellent in my opinion. I hope others are following the same methods.
