The 1955 DDO is a fluke. Although widely known among cent collectors, it is still a fluke

Wait, what do you mean by its a fluke? Its a legendary error coin, its what 99% of people would think of when someone asks them whats best doubled die on a US coin. Would you consider something like the 43 copper or 44 steel cent a fluke?

Because I've got the 09SVDB...I'd have to go 55 DDO because I don't have it...But I'd have to tell the wife it only cost $150.00 lol...

I have no interest in modern cents b/c, knowing my past record, I would somehow store it improperly despite best efforts and zinc rot would set in. So the modern one would be out for me. I stopped at '82.

If it was me I would go for the 1955 DDO b/c I don't need two SVDBs!

the 1955 DDO isn't a 'fluke" it's a die variety.

Yeah, it's not needed for a complete set of Lincoln cents, but it adds value to a complete set of Lincoln cents if that's the example in it.

And I don't have either of the "$150.00" wheat's mentioned, yet. I would tend to go with the 55 DDO variety first since that is where my interest is focused, but the 1909 S VDB may have a wider appeal for resale when the time comes.

Thats was definitely a consideration in my hypothetical decision.

None, I'd go with the best example 1914-D I could find at that price!

That aside, I would pick the 1909 S VDB just over the 55, even though I have one. I feel the 09 and the 55 DDO would be equally easy to move. I don't see value shifting to drastically either, so it's safe.

The Close AM Philly and Denver leave me hesitant. I just feel there's a lot more out there that may eventually turn up. Not to the extreme of a "hoard" but enough to drastically drop value. I mean, we did see 2 show up on here over the period of a couple months, granted they were Denver's.
